June in Idaho
Weariness drives the soul,
Eyes puffy from long consternation
Heartfelt longings for magical happenings
Pitter-patter rainfall outside
Waving green leaves dance amidst sturdy branches
Swimming through my memories are
Thoughts of sunny days,
And peaceful floats down the river.
June in Idaho means
96 degrees one day,
47 two days later.
Severe thunderstorms bring
Drops in the air pressure,
As a schizophrenic mind
Flitters between personalities.
The distant Boise Foothills
Show powdery white patches along
Curved contours of the land,
Touching the sky as an
Ocean swell carries white breaking waves,
Energy renewed to a distant shore.
Disinterested daughter rolls her eyes
At my choice of movie:
“I’m done,” she declares,
Burrowing her head in the red pillow,
Creating an even more vast space
Between us like the hourglass dropping sand;
I wade along the bottom,
While she swims to stay on top.
Sudden sunlight filters through the windows,
Offering hope and understanding
From one moment to the next.
Nothing stays the same,
But everything is affected by
Constant changes in time
“Cherish the moment”
A familiar voice proffers from a long ago
Memory: a blonde, freckled face girl
Listening to her Grandma share stories:
Younger mishaps and adventures,
Love and patience,
Choices and consequences.
Time ticking forever onward,
Despite changing atmospheric moods.
With sincere intention,
I seek to make the most of each moment.
Despite individual storms,
And moments of shocking solitude
Facing me along the way.
