Picked up a random poetry book From the crowded shelf. Quick easy hour read: Delight and wonder. Then, Found…
A COVID-19 Day in the Life Experience
Within closed doors
And latched windows
Covered to block out the light,
Within the stoic family home,
Silent save for constant whirring
From fans maintaining
Comfortable temperatures,
An individual lies in unrest.
Body aches, chills,
Chest, throat, and ear pain,
Unknown diagnosis
Save for a returned negative test.
Five hundred new cases daily
In a valley of mixed opinions,
#stayhome and #wearamask
Seem to be the answers.
Further blood work,
Needle poked in vein,
Slight pinch of pain
And rave reviews
From nurses who are glad
I’d filled the form out before I arrived;
My usually faint veins cooperated
With no problems:
Two gold stars for me.
No prize though save for
The speediness of the whole appointment.
Drive home,
My first drive out in days,
Feel invigorated,
Feel the need to go shopping,
Buy me a creamy Green Tea Smoothie,
The Human Bean is near;
Treat quickly forgotten,
Spot a nest atop a tall pole,
One lone young osprey perches,
Staring out, perhaps hesitantly,
Ready to take flight.
Unaware of human realities,
Only knowing natural instincts:
Fly, feed and propagate.
No worry from pandemics.
Free to soar over mice-filled fields
And winding rivers,
The sheer juxtaposition to my reality.
Human versus bird,
One immune to the other.
I return to my house of walls,
Awaiting again more results:
Wondering about the osprey,
Hoping for a smooth transition
Into adulthood.
For me, I pray for this mysterious virus
To float away like that young bird’s feathers.
Praying you are better soon!?
Live you beautiful writing❤
