Picked up a random poetry book From the crowded shelf. Quick easy hour read: Delight and wonder. Then, Found…
Discernment During a Pandemic
Prayer for discernment:
I engage in a battle,
Noxious button weeds versus me;
Fanning thickness greenery;
Seemingly beautiful until it overtakes
Everything.
Pulling with my gloved hands have no effect;
Pushing on a metal shovel helps somewhat,
Till I realize the root of the problem
Lies under the solid, concrete patio.
An untouchable source,
Thick root of evil;
An incurable nemesis like a pandemic,
Killing others with its unseen hand.
My husband says to just
Stay on top of it as it grows new sprouts.
Like a bandaid on a burn,
Unagreeable solution,
I cringe at the thought of fighting
Thick, unreachable roots all summer.
I just want a bit of earth to plant
Growing vegetables to enjoy:
Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber…
Ripening reds and greens
Excite my soul as I watch the
Growth as a child grows in life.
Dreams, experiences, hope,
Something to remember each day.
We always have something to
Brighten each new day,
Even when the sun is hidden behind
Gray clouds, the knowledge of
What’s behind the veil,
Like an expectant mother showered with gifts,
Love is always there.
From a virtual worship, I hear the choir sing:
“Healing leaves of grace abounding
Bring a taste of love unknown.”*
Is it possible to connect an unseen
Enemy with that of my faith?
“[Hope] is not canceled,” says Pastor Kevin,
“Prayer and relationships will be
Our strength in God as He leads us forward…”*
Battling that weed offers purpose, like
A steadfast soldier’s unending patience;
The courage of civil rights supporters to gain
Rights for all of God’s children;
Mother Teresa’s lifelong endeavor to
Help those in need;
All essential workers near and far,
Away from loved ones,
Caring for our own family.
Adding nourishment to my family’s bodies,
Building strength as an iron-clad ship
Battling the coming storm.
I gain help from a powerful weed poison;
Hope is never gone from my soul.
Today is not the worst.
Today gives me the strength to
Prepare for what’s to come.

Very well written Janelle! Always great to see how the Holy Spirit provides application to the Good News!
Prayer and Relationships with God and others has to be an answer, maybe the answer.
Blessings,
Kevin
