Positive Affirmations Needed Daily
In light of recent negative events happening around the world, I am left feeling forlorn and wondering what will become of us in the near future. Then I remember, whatever will happens will be as Doris Day once sang, “Que Sera Sera/ The future’s not ours to see.”
Tonight my 10-year daughter started telling me her plans for her birthday that is in eight months. I smiled and listened to her plans, remembering how often she tends to change her mind about important things. Once when she was four, we had her pick out a new bedding set. First she wanted Winnie the Pooh, then Princesses, and finally, when my husband was going to order it online, she changed at the last minute to Minnie Mouse. After we put the new comforter on her toddler bed, she wished she had gotten something else entirely. Where did her self-doubt come from? Well, probably from me. How do I help her overcome this feeling when I struggle myself to stay positive? I am still looking for that answer.
How often do we as adults change our minds, especially when it has to do with something big? How often do we dread whatever may happen to us in a day just because the day before was terrible? How often do we let the negative events of day-to-day life affect how we react to each new day?
I doubt myself all of the time. Then I remember to focus on blessings. I may make a mistake but at least I can find a way to learn from it, or something may happen on the way to work making me late, but at least I know I am safe. The power may go out interrupting my plans at work, but at least I know I can always find a plan B.
When I wake in the morning, I remember to tell myself positive statements to help me prepare for the day. By going over positive affirmations with myself, I find I am more apt to not be so discouraged when things do not go as planned.
J.R.R. Tolkien once said:Daily affirmations grow deep roots of faithful tending to oneself. Starting the day by building a rooted foundation of gratitude makes for a more meaningful life (read my novel, Married to an Atheist A Love Story from Idaho, to find out how I learned this truth.).
Catherine Moore, from positivepsychology.com, states:
“You may choose to use positive affirmations to motivate yourself, encourage positive changes in your life, or boost your self-esteem. If you frequently find yourself getting caught up in negative self-talk, positive affirmations can be used to combat these often subconscious patterns and replace them with more adaptive narratives.”
There is scientific evidence that proves starting the day with positive self-talk increases your neural pathways to be able to have a better self-identity, better response to negative situations, and better overall health , (Moore).
So how are you going to start your day? It may be Monday and you’re dreading the start of another grueling week, or it is Saturday and you have a million errands to do. Regardless, the more you start the day with gratitude, the better your day will be.
I am thankful for each of you!
