Reality Check April
At the start of the year, I had every intention to write a blog post at least five days a week. You may have noticed that I have not been so successful so far.
What happened?
Since the first of the year, I have found a thrilling new teaching gig. My students are constantly surprising me by their wisdom and unique perspectives.
I prioritize more time for my own children. I have even started helping out with their Girl Scout troop.
Plus, I had that emergency eye surgery business, and am still trying to recover from it.
I have had a balance between good and bad days. I do not let myself get so stressed about changes, especially since now I am not able to drive myself around anymore. I have lost some of my personal freedom as a result of the surgery. I still have no vision in the eye my surgeon put back together (well the retina part). My husband has been so awesome at being my chauffeur. All I can do is my best despite my limitations. That means I teach with an eye patch. I’ve actually gotten used to it!
Additionally, writing has not been such a priority. Although I did get rejected by a publisher recently. Apparently, they have too many submissions and mine was not one of their priorities. Too bad for them is what I say. There are other avenues I can turn towards. I just have to stay positive and hopeful. My book will be published this year!
What about you? What do you do when your good intentions fall “to the wayside”? Do you let change ruin your day, or do you let it be an opportunity for transformation. We can learn from our mistakes, even from unexpected events. How we choose to respond to them is what makes all of the difference in our personal growth journey.
I like what writer, Sarah Rudell Beach, says on her blog, thedailybuddha.com,
“You don’t have to turn something bad into something good… It’s true that profound transformations often emerge from deep suffering … but it’s also true that profound transformations take a long time.”
Sarah Rudell Beach explores the old adage, “When life gives you lemons, make lemons.” She explains, “But if you need to feel the bad, then feel the bad. Reach out and talk to people about the bad.” Very poignant!
The important thing to remember, no matter what changes are happening in your life, seek out good friends. We are nothing without trusted relationships to help give us a new perspective on life.
