Choices Make a Difference
My favorite poem is “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost
Twenty-two years after graduating from high school, I often think about this poem and how it has in fact shaped my reality. In 2002, after earning my Bachelor’s degree, I chose to get married instead of pursue a writing career. I worked while my husband finished his college. Then we both worked. Then we had kids. Now we are a family of four, loving each other, supporting and valuing each other. Last year, I chose to quit my teaching job and ended up writing a book. This year, I have published the book on Amazon. People have bought it and have read it. Hopefully people are sharing it with others (hint, hint). Since I wrote a book and published it, other people are now able to choose to read my story. They can read my story and decide if what I wrote, what I experienced, will somehow benefit them or someone they know.
Recently, I chose to transfer my daughters to the school I am working at, which was a hard decision. They were both ready for a change, but I had changed their schools before and they didn’t like it. Now, I feel like it is the right decision, especially since they both came home excited about new friends. Time will tell me later whether or not it was the right move. Right now, all I can do is trust God’s voice that I believe I hear when He reassures me this is a good decision. Trust.
Robert Frost wrote “Two roads diverged in a road.” and that is what keeps me going each day. The result of my daily choices have a significant effect on my daily life, including my mood, relationships, and work. What do you think?
Since I wrote a book, since I had two daughters, since I married my husband, my life is what it is because of these choices. I do not need to regret my choices. Each one has been exactly what I needed at the time.
As Frost ends his poem:
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference."
